Expanding mandrel for thermoplast pipe - with system of radially movable wedges

Spreizdorn

Abstract

An expanding mandrel is used for producing a thickened socket at the end of a softened thermoplastics pipe. The mandrel consists of radially movable wedges, constituted, alternately around the circumference, of outward-thrusting wedges having an outward taper and of bridging segments having an inward taper. The driving mechanism is an axial bar inside the mandrel, fitted with cones which thrust against inclined seatings on the inner faces of the outward-thrusting wedges.
